An exciting street for shopping, street food and more!

Ueno Ameya Yokocho Shopping Street, also known as "Ameyoko(American Street)". In earlier years there was more than 200 candy shops and many shops resold items from the U.S. Army soldiers. Since the Japanese pronunciation of candy (Japanese word for Ame) and American shared Ame, this street is named after Ame Street. It was a wholesale market but now it has become a huge open-air shopping mall with 400 retail stores along the street. There are shops selling seafood, dried foods, fresh foods such as fruits, clothes, and drug stores. In addition, there are many street food and Izakaya for you to grab a bite or drink. Particularly, there are small alleys with many interesting shops, waiting for you to discover!

The busy atmosphere is what makes it enjoyable

Besides shopping and eating, walking around here is so fun! There are food from various countries, cut fruits, Middle eastern kebab and Chinese food just to name a few.
